Bittersweet

When we hear bitter, coffee almost always comes to mind. For people who have not had coffee, knowing that it is bitter, we would rather not take part of it or take it with lots of sugar, but once we know or come to accept the taste, we can then reap the benefits with little to no bad side effects.

If God is love? Then what is the opposite of God? We could answer almost immediately that it is the devil, right? I would argue against that label, though, as I have come to realize that the opposite of that is being human. To be human is to want; wanting does not necessarily mean leading to sin, but wanting and taking more than what we need or is given to us directly.

Before getting to know God, we find ways to satisfy or to fill our souls with different things that the world has to offer, not necessarily bad, but once we take part of the world, we are not able to take part of what could really satisfy our souls. Once everything is stripped away, we are left empty, nothing, and feeling burnt out. The only one left to catch our fall is God; no matter how low or empty we feel inside, we are then able to ask for what we need.

For the empty soul, cures can be given because it allows us to realize and reflect on things that we neglect, as if removing our hands in front of our eyes. We are then able to see the cure, as bitter as it is and accept it wholeheartedly.
