Chastity and Marriage

A different interpretation than what I am used to, a thought experiment that places me in the situation of an adult parent towards a teenage daughter in a very liberal world.

I am not one to preach, especially about chastity before marriage. Nowadays, it is somewhat a difficult topic to discuss.

As children progress to adulthood, we give them the “birds and the bees” talk. This might not have the same context as it had before, but I will try to talk about it in the context of God. Understanding that we are “created” and are within a bigger body is important. In any relationship, humility is imperative, and knowing that every living being that we interact with is part of what He created. God’s hand would be evident in all things living because all of it are gifts in order to show His love for us.

Now that you know that all things living in this world are His gifts. Shouldn’t we respect and take care of that which is given to us by God? Consider this: do you think that God loves us? Why is it then that even if we make mistakes and have not considered His ways, we are still openly received by Him if we repent? Is this not what it means to be a parent to a child? When we have yet to mature into understanding that His love is true, it will never leave us astray.

Compared to inanimate gifts, we have our own free will, which is one of the best gifts that God has given us. As living gifts, we then have a choice to whom we offer ourselves, so we must value ourselves the way that God values us. Truly, He knew us from the day we were born until our current selves, this includes our situations and contexts that we built our lives upon. Knowing that you were once unblemished and innocent from worldly things, He faithfully awaits for us to come back to Him and experience the love that values us enough to sacrifice His only son, just so we could have a chance to know and be reconciled with Him.

Shouldn’t we then give the utmost value for our bodies, bodies that were made equal unto the body of Jesus Christ himself? This is true for the person receiving this gift, right? We receive a gift to which we should give utmost care, as if given an innocent offering upon the altar of God. This is how much we should value ourselves, equal to Christ in all humility and importance to God. This is your worth, and this is the minimum treatment that we should expect from any relationship.

This post is what I would say to my own daughter if I had a chance to guide her. It is a little rough around the edges, but all of it is true, especially if she would come to experience who God truly is. If ever she would feel out of place in this world, and if she comes to seek love from another, then I hope that this post can be a guide, if in case that I am away from her. Of course, I would love to give this talk personally, but we cannot tell the situations that we might be at any point in time.
