Friend, Wherefore Do Come From
When Jesus went in front of the people who would bring Him to Pilate, “wherefore do you come?” was an odd question considering he knew he was already going to be captured.
If you are like me, now that you know who Jesus is, you would think why does He still ask the question “Friend, wherefore art thou come”? He even declared in a previous verse that “behold, he is at hand that doth betray me”.
Knowing Jesus, most of what He says is based on old scripture. I found that this scripture matches the same scripture that David said on 1 Chronicles 12:17. Reading through that verse gives a subtle interpretation on what He was saying, meant specifically for someone who knows scripture. On that short verse, He declared that He was innocent and would appreciate it if they would consider being allied to Him else they would suffer God’s rebuke.
This goes to show that somehow Jesus was still hopeful until the very last moment that the spirit would move their hearts. Although, His path was already set for Him at that point. This gives us a little insight of how much Jesus was immersed in scripture and loved by the Holy Ghost. God Himself matches the same characteristics, hopeful that His desired future would eventually come into fruition, where all would repent and be reconciled with Him.
