Guard Your Heart
The heart is a weird vessel; emotions come from the head, but we connect them to the heart. It acts as our center and our alignment with God and this world. It is important to guard it as it can easily be swayed towards negative things and bring out the worst in us.
Proverbs 4:23 - Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. In other versions, keep is reworded to guard. Hate or love “4” can spring forth from the heart “2”, and it either comes out as words or our spirit “3”.
This verse matches what is mentioned in Luke 6:45, and it really makes perfect sense. This is the reason why whenever we have heated arguments with people, it is often good to take time off to calm down and rethink and compose ourselves. Our hearts reflect our words and actions, and it can affect more than just ourselves, but also people around us. It is an audible and often times can be felt in the tension in the air, which in turn could create a sort of discord with people surrounding us.
Contrast this when our hearts are in sync and filled with joy; it pours out an overflow of heartfelt emotions that leads people in harmony. This is the same feeling in a sports stadium, and people are chanting in unison. It creates an aura or a flow that somehow affects the team that they are supporting. Similarly, when we are having a heartfelt conversation, the emotion that is being conveyed is poured onto the other.
Though it is a little vague, I think that since we are living in the same space, this can also be felt across the entire world. It is sort of like a barometer of what the general feeling of the world is. Since God is a spirit, and He covers this entire world and He is connected to all of us, I think it is apt to guard those around us; in a general sense, it makes the two most important commandments, which are to love God and love people true and the center of our hearts.
