The Last Things We Control

Reframing into offering our way towards what is godly can be cumbersome, yet choosing to do so will always be the best choice for our own sanity and well-being.

There will always be days that will just be not our best selves. Call it waking on the wrong side of the bed or mood swings; humans tend to be swayed by our emotions. Maybe something annoyed the hell out of you, or we hear something that just didn’t sit well with us; simple things can cause us to react negatively, thus affecting the entire day. Then I am reminded of Viktor Frankl, because one of the last human freedoms is our choice on how to react or respond to situations.

People will always try to steal something from you, be it time, money, or even peace. In a world where all things can be taken away, certain truths will always remain; these things cannot be taken from you; faith, hope, and love. Call it cheesy; heck, you can even cringe at it, but I realized certain things will remain true.

Faith, one line that resounds across the entire scripture is the phrase “I will never leave you, nor forsake you”. True in a lot of ways; in Job 34:14-15, it says, if He goes against us, we would turn back to dust. Our God is the source of everything that we are, and so long as He remains with us, all things that can happen will happen.

Hope, because the above is true, with Him all things are possible, and so long as there is breath in our lungs, we can still find a way that we can move forward. It may not be the most convenient path, but it will be a path that we can press on and live.

Love, the most difficult choice, as we need to choose to love the way that Christ asks us to love, to love your enemy and those who persecute you, Matthew 5:44. I know that this can be rather difficult because I have been tested with this far too many times recently. Yet choosing to respond and reframe myself towards faith, hope, and love always puts me in a better mood.
