We Are What We Eat
Consumption is something that we do daily. We do not necessarily notice it, but we fill ourselves with food and we ingest different kinds of media on a daily basis. Now, this can be both bad and good, but if we fill ourselves with things of the spirit that bring us to life.
This should be on my other blog where I write about anime and parallels with scripture, but I am planning on pushing all of my interpretations here. Psalm 14:4 is a very unique verse as it denotes eating people as bread. Now, I don’t know about you, but eating people sounds like a zombie apocalypse. How and why the heck is this in scripture? It is because this is true; people eat people, we consume and take part in people’s thoughts and influence that at times we can get lost, usually because their context does not necessarily match with ours. Now, this directly relates to John 6:35, and this points to who He is and who God is to us. As Jesus pointed out, He is the bread of life, and if the one that comes to Him would hear His words, He in turn would receive life as His words are spirit and they are life.
Now, if we take that into consideration, in Psalm 14:4, it mentions not calling upon God. When we hear Jesus’s words, they automatically are of God. If we consider it closely and pay attention to it, then it is not Him who speaks but God the Father who is in heaven. All of this points back to God, as Jesus humbly redirects the listener back to God in order to counter scripture from Psalm 14:4.
Now if we eat of the bread of God, doesn’t this mean that we in turn become God? Or part of God? Now, the prerequisite of this is believing and trusting who God is. Opposing to this? If we do not eat of God, then what exactly are we? Galatians 5:15 is exactly this, now this might sound sexual as the succeeding verse mentions about lust of the flesh, then proceeds to mention all which are “fleshly”. Now part of all this is how we treat people and take advantage of our gifts. What in turn would really satisfy? Spirit or flesh? If we then are filled with either, the craving is only curbed, if we consume flesh isn’t that similar to taking part in another man’s life? But what if we consume one whose flesh is eternal, the one that is part of who we are, the one that truly makes us whole. Doesn’t that sound more satisfying?
One thing is for certain: if we consume from the one that is eternal, the spirit comes upon us, and we can in turn be life to other people. It becomes an unlimited cycle of life-giving spirit and words. Now, wouldn’t that make for a much more wonderful world as opposed to a zombie apocalypse? Interesting, right? Final thoughts: I think that our world is built upon the faith of God, and scripture shows us the truth of this world that allows us to choose what we should consume in order to create a world that is both eternal and heavenly.
