Work That Glorifies God
Work or the lack thereof can be very tiresome. God sees and knows all things that we do, and in that regard, how we do one thing affects all things around us. How do you glorify God in all things? An introspection on what kind of work would glorify God.
Work takes up majority of my time recently, and I have spoken with different people and have gotten different perspectives and views. Where are we, what is expected of us, why do we still do this work?
Pondering upon this I found the work that I was doing was similar to a Lego set. I was making small pieces that could eventually be used for bigger things later on. Curiosity made me think about what Lego means, apparently Lego is an acronym for the Danish phrase “leg godt” which means play well. Funnily enough when I was trying to translate it, Google Translate was set to Japanese and “leg godt” translates to “yoku purē suru” which oddly sounds like “always praise”. This took me to a bit of a tangent where I could see the beauty of language and God’s work and symphony.
2 Chronicles 34:12 - And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.
My key take away from this verse is that, we should work faithfully because He works faithfully for us.
2 Chronicles 8:16 - Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was perfected.
It is never us who perfects the work, and God is never done with His work with us.
Matthew 21:42 - Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
The Lord Jesus seems to know this as well. The more I see the works of God, the more astonished, amazed, and dumbfounded I am by the sheer beauty of His work in this world.
Matthew 8:8 - The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
All that is needed from us is the right response to His call. It would be best to read the story of the centurion, as it defines what it is to be like in middle management, and the nuance and hardship to be like Jesus.
John 6:27 - Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
We should always lift up our concerns to God, because He responds faithfully to our work, and with the small offering that we give Him, He makes full use of our offerings from generation to generation.
What kind of work would you glorify God with? Is the work that we do glorifying to God? Our work is not defined by how small or how big the part is; similar to Lego pieces, each piece has its place in God’s design. He would not let any piece or any work go to waste. He will find a way to ensure that our work is recognized and used to its fullest.
